Etana’s name means ‘The Strong One’ in Swahili, and it’s a title she more than lives up to with her music and presence. Since debuting in ’06 with the thought provoking single ‘Wrong Address’, the Jamaican-born singer has established herself as one of the most powerful and distinctive voices in reggae, blazing a new trail in a genre that has long been male-dominated.

For her ’13 album ‘A Better Tomorrow’, Etana collaborated with producer Shane Brown in the famous Tuff Gong Studios. This album was met with critical acclaim and gave her the opportunity to work on her latest smash album ‘I Rise’. Etana continues her forward movement by becoming the first female to reach Reggae Billboard #1 in over 17 (!) years. From the outset of her career she has been instigating change. Four albums into her career, Etana has become a role model in Jamaica with her message and action.

Some people are born with music in their genes: Rapha Pico was taught the basic principles of reggae by his father, Djeynah Delbeti, singer of Revelation Time in the 80ies and 90ies. The talented multi-instrumentalist shared the stage with Popcaan and Romain Virgo, among many others, and recorded his first album at the Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston (Jamaica), mixed and mastered by Roland McDermott. Rapha Pico will perform with his band Roots Rockers.

Etana, oftewel ‘The Strong One’, heeft zichzelf sinds ’06 gepresenteerd als één van de meest krachtige en unieke reggae artiesten van deze tijd. Met goed ontvangen albums als ‘The Strong One’ en ‘Free Expressions’ zette ze zichzelf definitief op de kaart. Interessante samenwerkingen waren het gevolg. Zo strikte ze Beenie Man voor haar single ‘Money Is The Motive’ en had ze in ’09 het voorrecht een release te delen met de legendarische Gregory Isaacs.

In ’13 begon Etana een samenwerking met producer Shane Brown, in de welbekende Tuff Gong Studios. Het resultaat werd ‘A Better Tomorrow’, waarop er eens te meer teruggegrepen wordt naar nostalgische vintage sounds en zogeheten one-drop rythms. Met het in ’14 uitgebrachte ‘I Rise’ werd haar opmars definitief bevestigd. Zo werd ze de eerste vrouwelijke artiest in 17 (!) jaar die de nummer één positie haalde in de Reggae Billboard charts.

Vanaf allereerste single ‘Wrong Address’ weet Etana je aan het denken te zetten. Ze schetst een nieuwe horizon en inspireert met haar conscious boodschap. Ze werkt momenteel ze aan haar vijfde album, maar komt nu eerst naar Amstelveen!

Sommige mensen worden geboren met muziek in hun genen: Rapha Pico leerde de basisprincipes van de reggae al op jonge leeftijd van zijn vader, Djeynah Delbeti, in de jaren 80 en 90 leadzanger van Revelation Time. De talentvolle multi-instrumentalist heeft met onder andere Popcaan en Romain Virgo op het podium gestaan en heeft zijn debuutalbum opgenomen in de beroemde Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston, Jamaica, gemixt en gemastered door Roland McDermott. Rapha Pico treedt op met zijn band.
